Rugby trials are all go!

T2 Wk 6

The Eastern Zone Rugby trials were held this week up on the top fields.  Both girls and boys were out in force which was great to see.  Mr Timo put the girls through their paces and he commented on how open and responsive the girls are to playing a new game.  Great stuff girls!

The boys were well represented - with close to 40-45 boys having a good run.  Mr C wore both the referee and coach's hat - not an easy feat by any means.  As a sideline supporter it was obvious that both the teams thoroughly enjoyed themselves and bringing their own sport clothes allowed for that added freedom of movement.

Let's hope all this training brings in the results....no pressure! :)

Next week our Tamaki Cluster League boys head out for their tournament on Wednesday 3rd June.  They have also been put through their training paces with Coach Dariyan - all the best boys!

Eastern Zone Soccer Tournaments

T2 Wk 5

This week our Yr 7 & 8’s soccer teams represented SPS at the Eastern Zone Soccer Tournaments.  The girls had a great day out on Tuesday with Mr C.  They had wins to both Bailey Road and Tamaki Schools and narrow losses to Churchill Park and Glendowie Schools.   In the quarterfinals they were tied at full time, which then resulted in a penalty shoot out.  They went down 3-4 to Churchill.    Great effort girls!

The boys travelled to Sacred Heart College on Thursday where they also met some fierce competition from our local schools.  They played some hearty games and enjoyed their day’s experience.

Many thanks go to Mr C and Whaea Tere for their support and assistance on the day.

Introducing: SYLVIA'S SUPER FOURS...

On Thursday night, a mixed year 3 and 4 team started playing in the AMI Future Ferns competition.

They play a modified game of netball after a short skill session.

Their coaches, Whaea Reta and Whaea Kylie were so impressed with their first game.

They had some tough competition against St Michaels but all the students played their best and were great sportspeople on the day.

We can't wait for their next game!

Winter codes are in full swing!

T2 Wk 4

This week we had Coaches James and Ryan from Auckland Rugby League come in to take the Yr 5 and 6 boys for a training session.  The boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learned some good attacking and defensive skills.  The Tamaki Cluster League tournament will be in Week 6 at Mt Wellington Reserve.

This week also signalled the start of the AMI Yr 6-8 Netball tournament that is played on a Tuesday afternoon.  We have entered in a Yr 8 girls team called the Maroonettes and a Yr 6 mixed team called the Sylvia Ferns.   Both teams did remarkably well considering for many it was their first experience of competitive netball.

Great to have Violet - a Yr 8 from last year - come and umpire our games.  It helps when she's Virgil's big sister!

The first 3 weeks will involve 30 minute grading games and then we will switch to 4 x 10 min quarters for the remainder of the season.  Bring it on!

Hockey Skills are out in force!

T2 Wk 2

Te Manawa and Te Ropu O Nga Manakura are really enjoying the new Hockey skills being taught by the Auckland Hockey coaches.  Despite some inclement weather the hockey has proceeded and the hall has been a good wet weather alternative.

Check out R18 and 19 Year 7's in action!
